Got a sweet tooth? You will want to read this!
Sep 13, 2023If you're like me, you might have a weak spot for desserts.
I used to crave dessert at night after long days. My go-to was Trader Joe's flourless chocolate cake. Yep, I'd microwave that treat and devour all 1000 calories – my comfort and reward for the day's challenges.
Fast forward a year, and I've significantly cut back on processed sugar. It wasn't easy, but replacing my sugar sources with sustainable, nutrient-rich options changed my taste buds.
I still enjoy sugar, but more mindfully.
The healthiest sugar? Date Syrup! Dates are nature's candy, loaded with nutrients and dietary fiber for digestion and satiety. Rich in vitamins and minerals like potassium and magnesium, date syrup retains the fruit's nutrition. Unlike refined sugars spiking blood sugar, it has a gentler impact due to its lower glycemic index. It adds a rich, caramel-like taste – perfect for smoothies!
Next, Molasses. It's the essence after sugar cane/beets are processed. A taste and nutrient powerhouse with light to dark varieties. The process determines flavor, from mild to robust.
Honey and maple syrup follow, then processed sugars like white/brown sugar, corn syrup, etc.
Next grocery trip, grab some date syrup or molasses and try experimenting with it at home.
Remember, small habits drive transformations. Prioritize well-being today for long-term health. Let's #dosomethingdaily for ourselves.
