Easy Plant Based Foods To Incorporate For You & Your Family
Jul 12, 2023Here are a few tasty and beginner-friendly foods to consider:
Legumes: Beans, lentils, and chickpeas are fantastic sources of protein and fiber. They can be used in various recipes like salads, soups, and even veggie burgers.
Whole Grains: Quinoa, brown rice, oats, and whole wheat pasta provide essential nutrients and can serve as a base for numerous plant-based meals. Experiment with different grains to keep your dishes exciting! I like to batch cook a few grains at the start of the week so they are ready to go.
Leafy Greens: Spinach, kale, and Swiss chard are excellent sources of vitamins and minerals. Incorporate them into salads, stir-fries, or smoothies for a healthy boost. Buy a large bag of curly kale and stick it in the freezer- it’ll last for weeks and stay fresh for smoothies.
Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds offer healthy fats and protein. Sprinkle them on top of salads, yogurt, or use them in homemade energy bars. My kids love chia seed pudding for breakfast with coconut milk!
Plant-Based Milk: Almond, soy, and oat milk are fantastic dairy alternatives. They can be used in smoothies, cereals, or enjoyed on their own. My personal favorite is vanilla soy milk.
Tofu and Tempeh: These versatile soy-based products can be marinated and used in stir-fries, curries, or grilled for a delicious meat substitute. Some folks can find the texture of tofu…different…Recently I’ve been air frying my tofu and it has been a game changer with texture!
Remember, it's essential to listen to your body and make changes gradually. Experiment with different recipes and flavors to discover what suits your taste buds best. Have fun! And include your kids!
